Title: Intake manifold
Post by: 454spectra on February 12, 2012, 06:05:11 PM: Hey,does anybody know of a good aftermarket intake manifold that isn't much taller then a stock one for a bbc with oval port heads?i have a 19ft spectra and it has the engine cover on it and it's pretty close as is and I like the cover the way it looks so I don't want to cut a hole in it.any info wud be appreciated.thanks

By stock, I assume you mean a cast iron spread bore.... ;)

Post by: 454spectra on February 12, 2012, 07:51:02 PM: Hey,it's a factory cast iron manifold with a Holley 4bbl,I got the 049 oval port heads otherwise I wud be interested.thanks tho.i will take a look at the performer.i wanted to go with a performer rpm air gap but I don't think I have the clearance.Would a single plane like the torker/torker2 be a good choice on a stock 454? Not sure cuz of higher rpm but it is really low profile.

GM made a few different Oval port intakes in iron without an EGR...One of them was extremely short, mainly used on Corvettes and big block Impalas. The truck version was a little taller (about an inch taller) but the Performer is at least two inches taller..I don't know how close your situation is, but you may look into any aluminum intake for a Corvette.

IMHO a dual plane, or a modified dual plane would be the ticket....Why? Because with the limited height you will be hard pressed to get the runner velocities where they need to be with such a short intake.

Post by: 454spectra on February 14, 2012, 11:10:30 PM: Hmmm.on the edelbrock website it had the lowest intake deck height,or maybe its the Torker 2 .one of them it listed as .25 inches taller then corvette intake which is pretty low profile.im not expecting a performance increase,but definitely don't want to hurt the performance tho.
