Could have been the Pistons, OR, the stock, non polished, BROACHED, LO PO Rods(I can tell at a glance). If it was the Piston, The Rod wasn't far behind. They aren't really designed for the use a Jet boat will put them thru in this form(loading and unloading at 6500+ rpm is really stressful). Al least, switch to a Rod that is Polished and Shotpeened(properly), and has SPOT FACING for the Bolt seat. PLEASE use an ARP bolt(doesn't have to be the 'Wave Loc' type, just 8740 is a real upgrade) and kmake sure the Rods are prepped. They'll last like that a good, long while under hard use. JMO. RR

The question being did it fail due to Oil starvation, or did it spin due to the Rod Bolt stretching prior to failing and thus creating an environment conducive to the bearing spinning(relieving 'crush')? Something to think about. RR

last year I bought my first jet boat a 1978 nordic the guy took me out and ran the living hell out of it I bought it cause my wife vetoed the harley and what happens the second time out it dropped an exhaust valve basically looked like the same bottom end damage as yours plus a junk head so I spent all of winter last year and up to this point to build a nice 460 there is a company on ebay perfectcrank that sells bbf 6.605 h beam rods for 259 bucks with capscrew arp bolts and eagle sells the cast steel cranks for 209 bucks they claim good to 750 horsepower and a hell of a lot stronger than oe pieces.I have always been a chevy guy till this boat but after building this one I see bbf make big torque ive built hundreds of motors and seen this before several times by the look of the rod and bearing pieces there was a starvation,possibly momentary lack of oil and you lost a bearing first then the piston came apart cast pistons are weak ford used a forged piston in the truck motors and they are cheap i paid 31 bucks a piece for em and they are strong as hell to the other thing I found after tons of research is a main girdle that ties all the main caps together for about 70 bucks stops cap walk bbf are very prone to thismy problem with my boat now is what some of you guys called cavitation I havent got to thay problem yet hope this helps you man I know all to well how this carnage feels......

I was just checking out this engine damage when I noticed the Milodon oil pan. I wonder if it was causing the same oil pressure drop mine experianced.

the pan was repaired and put on the new motor (thanks tom!) and i dont have any oiling issues. that motor was a junk yard motor we threw in a boat and put the pedal to the metal for several laps with no mercy. it didnt stand a chance.

My junkyard motor did pretty much the same thing without the block window. The bore was ruined though from the rod smacking around. So got a good deal on a long block from a local builder. I'm really nervous about running stocker rods & pistons lol. I never spin more than 4800 anyway because of my impellor cut. Need to turn it into a stroker. I've been talking to LakesOnly about it. And then eventually bolting on a blower!!! Yeah Baby!!!
