Another carb question. ..boring!!!

Ok guys this isn't a carb rebuilt question or a tuning question...This has been driving me nuts for over 3 years now and I never asked anyone...never took any of my carbs to a shop to get dialed in or rebuilt and we all know at some times we should've so I never got a chance to ask a shop guy... how the F do they get the bowls, main body or baseplate or for this matter the whole carb a different color!!!???

Paint? Powder coat? Magic???? Pink green silver blue black...you name it I've seen it...Some carbs even tri colored. From what I know paint won't do it. You get a little gasoline on it, it either starts turning a different color or bubble up and peal.

Powder coating last longer but don't you have to bake it aka it'll mess with the structure of the carb and makes it useless...

Someone help solve this year after year long mystery of mine he he he.

they're anodized. its a process that seals the surface of aluminum (other metals can be anodized too) increasing its corosion resistance and can add pigment.  However its not very wear resistant like powdercoating.  It also doesnt have much UV resistance so things that are anodized that sit out in the sun will need to be re-done every so often.

Yes!!!! That's what I'm talking about...anodized usually means an arm and a leg correct?

nah its not too costly... the only problem is that the surface needs to almost be polished to a mirror shine or brushed finish before anodizing.  so the prep work is tough.  if you do things in batches the cost per item can go down.  if you only want one part done most places will have a minimum charge.

Hmm so if I do the prep work and take it in its reasonable...who's got that kind of time to prep. So many detailed little pieces on a carb...jesus!!!

Thx ka0tyk you solved a 3 year old mystery of mine. In my opinion not worth it unless you have 100% running and looking vessel which we all know is never gonna happen or you have what I like to call "F*** you money" and take the whole boat into a shop for a full resto,  point and say "I want this like that and that in this color, call me when you are done". I have a wife like most of us on here so I know I'll never have " F*** You Money" lol.

Holley used to have a service that they would colorize any new component to order.  I haven't checked into it in about 20 years so I don't know if they still offer it.

Yeah I guess I'm gonna have to look into it...looks nice and it's a bitchin' detail to any boat but at the same time it has to be somewhat reasonable om the price or it becomes not worth it...at the same time I saw anodizing kits for sale...anybody on here that did it themselves?
