Ok I have a stock Indmar 454 in my commander jet. Took off the spark arrestor and noticed excessive oil on the arrestor and all in the carb. Figured the valve cover's weren't baffled so i took them off. Wrong. Definitely baffled. Lots of oil in PCV hose also. So what can i do to stop this?

Too much oil in the motor...?

Nope. Was a quart low last time out. Put a quart in now 1/2 quart low again...

Put a breather on each valve cover and run it to a catch can not the air cleaner your motor needs to breathe more just my suggestion I had a similar problem

Ditch the pcv?

How many hours are on this deal?
Three things. Do, or have it performed, a leak down test.
What oil are you running?
And lastly, swap the valve covers around, putting the breather hose toward the front of the motor.
Good luck bro.
I'm thinking you may have a lot of ring blow by caused by either wear and tear or potentially rust damage on the cylinder walls.
A little oil is normal, but it shouldn't be "drippy".

Id begin with pulling the plugs to give a visual inspection, and then perform a cylinder leak down test. If you dont have those diagnostic tools, just do a cranking compression test to see if anything is weird, if the numbers are low, squirt some oil into the cylinder and see if the psi comes up, if so you have a ring seal problem. Im thinking the engine has too much lower crank case pressure and blow by, its most likely the rings, and then even sloppy valve stem to guide clearance and shot valve stem seals are all part of oil consumption problems. Bottom line the engine isnt healthy anymore and its only going to get worse.

Not sure on hours. Running Castrol 20/50. Breather hose is towards front of motor and pcv in back. Covers are the same so swapping them wont change anything. As for blow by... Very possible. As long as it last the rest of the season I can freshen it up this winter I guess...

Tired motor is what I'm afraid of. Just need to make it last the season...

The PCV isn't doing much with the engines present condition. It's overwhelmed by the blow by.
Throw a can of Engine Restore or Motor Honey in it and enjoy it until the weather takes a crap. It will be fine.

Damn. Just bought the boat too. Oh well. Gotta expect some kinda shit!

In many cases like these that I see, it's because rust was allowed to build up on the cylinder walls.
It's important to "fog" the engine during an extended lay up. I buy Marvel Mystery Oil by the gallon.
Go buy a can of Restore. The red blue and chrome can. Best ten to fifteen bucks you will ever spend.
You could do an oil analysis to see the iron oxide numbers, but it will be irrelevant because we don't really have any tend data.
I'm not a big fan of "elixirs", but I have seem this stuff work pretty good.

I run a pint or less of mystery or trans fluid to every tank of gas.

Been doing that for years. Keeps the carburetor from oxidizing too.

I may have to try that out. Used to run 2 stroke oil in my tank on my diesel, helped keep things lubed up inside.

Wait you guys mix marvel in the gas?

Yep. I stay near 200:1.

I never heard of that..would it be even recommended on a street application? I just watch a "1406 tune up" video yesterday and the dude mentioned something about oxidizing..didn't say how it happens or how to clear it up...
-
Oh shit, I meant the guy mentioned something about "oxygenation" in/with the fuel lol
-
I know what oxidizing is..haha
