Fuel tank and flip top question.
« on: August 15, 2017, 06:28:51 PM »
When I fill up my tanks, they always leak a lot at the flip tops. They leak a lot as if they suddenly came under pressure. After I fill up and drive away they leak when I park. I never top off to tops of necks. I let the fuel pump stop automatically. I have both fuel valves closed. I used to have a check valve at the tank outlet but removed those. It did it before too. Only way to get it to stop is to try to find a spot with an incline and park there. Any ideas?

Our 19' bahner sprint does the same thing.10 gal. Imco  tanks.
They only hold 8.5 gal with boat on the trailer and was sick of wiping up fuel every time I filled up .so I'll put about 3 gals a side and bring fuel jugs and fill the boat up rite before I launch, and don't have a problem emptying tanks for the tow home

Gas within your tanks expands with the outside temperature which is causing your issue. Do as stated above and only fill up right before you drop your boat in the water, run it a bit after launch and you will be kosher.

I had the same problem with my stainless imco tanks. I wrapped them in insulation that you use on car floor pans to keep the exhaust heat down and no more leaky flip tops.
