383 stroker renovation
« on: February 04, 2014, 06:29:39 PM »
So my dad bought a 383 stroker of a buddy was a fresh motor   Motor was in a off road truck that flipped over and caught fire so long story my dad got a 383 for about 400$  motor was on fire long enough to melt the intake carb and valve covers off  so my question is what's next strip the  motor dwn naked ?? The motor turns over with a wrench with the plugs out and the truck was extinguished  up Side dwn so no water in motor   So what I was hoping to do was drop the pan pull the heads put new springs and seals  push rods and put it back together I now it sounds risky but my pops is on a budget SO WHAT DO YOU THINK I'm all ears

GT should chime in soon and tell you I'm wrong, but I would think you'd be fine.  But he's paranoid like that.  But he's usually right too dammit.

So my dad already had the pan off and said there was no signs of water in it and the oil filter was still intact

So I pulled the cam out and there's no damage to the cam it self the bearing are pitted up and my dad threw away the lifters so can I buy new lifters and break them into a cam that's already got run time on it or call it a loss buy a new one    The cam spun free bot had to hit it out with a hammer  don't know what screwed up the bearings
