Logs leaking at the head (exhaust gases)

Last time I was out the boat started running pretty bad. When I got home and pulled the dog house to check it out I found both left and right banks had blown all the gasket material out in the middle areas of the ports (pretty bad exhaust leaks) surprised I couldn't hear it on the water lol. So I have 2 questions , one can this be the cause of the bad running issue. The boat just had a tune up and ran great till this happened.. Two why did it happen it had new gaskets and I torqued to specs it was bad enough it warped the manifolds which are now at the machine shop getting resurfaced... They are glenwood logs and snails on a 454.

1) Probably not, unless the exhaust gasses burned the boots off the plug wires.

2) I've never used gaskets, just ultra black RTV...and retorque after first heat/cool cycle, I've never had a leak- Indmar logs and snails, studded, 454.

First time out this season? Check fuel quality- maybe bad gas?

Drained the gas and refilled before taking out, had carb rebuilt and timing set at local shop.

So between the head and manifold you use black RTV??

The local hot rod shop turned me on to 100% silicone from the hardware store. You can get it in different colors and lasts until you take them off. I asked about rtv they said no 100% silicone didn't ask why I would think it would work but it is cheaper to just do silicone anyway.

Ultra Black, or High Temp Orange, right in the manifold.

Did it start running bad right away? Or later on in the day?

It ran good at the shop in the pond. Got to the lake it also ran good ran around a bit parked for awhile took off again and about two miles in it started to run crapy put it on the trailer after that.

Well I put the logs back on last Friday took the boat out to Katherine's landing and it ran great again.. Weird how it ran as bad as it did with exhaust leaks ..
