Logs/snails

460 ford with a berkley pump
460 ford with aluminum logs/snails.  Do they need to be regulated like wet Bassett headers??   
Also told that you don’t need a pressure relief valve between the pump and the motor??  It has a gate valve that’s wide open all the time.
Somewhere I read about tuning the water temp to match the motor temp????

I run mine at 135*- 145*.

Its a single pass system, lake water temp plus 50* MAX.

Never run it over 160* ( hard water contamination starts coating everything )

Not 180*-195* either, its not a smog motor.

No pressure regulator on mine, more crap to fail. (does the Colorado river have sand?)

Adjust said gate valve to 130*ish underway, or 145*ish at idle. Done.

So by closing the gate valve allowing less water  therefore letting it run hotter??

yep-

Slowly close the valve to get the motor warmer.

145*ish at idle, like at the dock, 130*ish underway.
