Title: LS6
Post by: sycamorefloater on April 12, 2012, 08:17:54 AM
Has anyone put a LS6 motor in there jet boat? just wondering if it's possible or not. With these gas prices got to figure a way to try to still have fun and still have the power

love to see where they put the little fams box!   sorry carbs work really well and when water comes over the back of the boat i wont need to scramble to try to keep my box dry.

im sure someones done it but i think any motor where you're still running at 50-80% of power all the time is gonna hog down the gogo juice.  You're not gonna get the same mpg as you do in a car. You'd be stuck with running dry exhaust for the o2 sensor for the computer, or you could ditch it and dumb down the tuning which again, cuts into your "mpg."  At the end of the day is it worth it spending all that time and money to save $20-50 a fillup?  How many fillups would it take to recover the cost?

Merc, KEM, Indmar have been efi for over 15+ years, NO O2 sensor. Have been boatin' on the river for 30+ years, and water over the back is BAD in any boat, mine has 4" of transom, and I don't have that problem.
ls6 in an old school hull is badass, my stock 'burban motor (sbc) does 55 at 4600 r's ALL DAY LONG, and sips fuel.
ls6 has more hp and tq than most 70's STOCK big blocks...and full roller valvetrain

Carbs don't work so well with 5 GALLONS of water thru them.

read my build in my signature.  I am not mechanical. I am efi. You don't need o2 sensor. Its all in the tune and VE tables.

agreed carbs dont work well with water running thur them either, but they will clear out try doing that to an injector a couple of times! wont work after awhile.and then lets talk about if just one injector goes out, or instead of spraying it just drips. sorry carbs are easier. and while you try to figure out why your injection system is doing funny stuff other will be enjoying the lake.on there boat with it running. ;Dsorry i am a mechanic and do like injection systems. in a car! where they belong.now i have seen them in a off shore boat but thats diff there covered and water does not get in that easy. but for a run around low pro boat carbs are the way to go.

at that point arent you just doing fuel trims since you dont have an o2 to measure exhaust and you dont have a MAF to measure air intake?  its just one table with "at this rpm, just this much fuel..." ???

Little bit more complicated than that. This is why I dynod it with s well known EFI tuner.

How does altitude/weather effect a carb?

alt and weather both effect a carb. it really has to do with air pressure and with it you will need more or less fuel.

Exactly!

I boat several places...400 ft elev to 1200 ft. been at 7000 ft. too
weather is usually 85*+...up to 125*
and it ran fine
not an all out race effort either

right!   if you were to just boat at one place that what not matter, but that gets boring.
