hello boys this is my first post on this sight. i have a 74 Fantasy with a 455 Olds in it right now. its getting tired and im wanting to run something both unique and that will stomp all over my friends running big blocks (no offense guys) ive built a few LSX based engines and they make monster power are very reliable and will cut weight im sure theres been quit a few stuffed into jet boats around but cant seem to find info on them. main place im lacking is in engine mounts and rear covers if i can find those i can fab the rest and would love to post pictures

The rear you can use sbc or BBC mounts. Front you can order from drag racing suppliers or make your own. Pto can be ordered and should bolt to your existing driveline

Here is the link to Kevin's build, which is clean and a must see in person. He did an awesome job with a LS build in his schiada and if I recall it was farely inexpensive but don't quote me on that. Good luck with the LS, the only request is to post pics as you go.

Thanks bud, yeah it can be done very inexpensively, it all depends on how much know how, tools, and ability you have on hand. I actually made money putting my deal together when it was all said and done because I parted all my old motor out. Cut corners on big ticket items like headers. Mine were made from a sbf sprint car kit with LS flanges to the tune of 120 bucks including the spray paint. Bassett wants 800

thanks for that link.. helped out alot and as i figured im probably just going to end up doing the same fab work and making my own mounts

Where are you located?

little town called ridgecrest about 100 miles from bakersfield.. in the desert

Yeah china lake is a bit of a drive. I have a useless block. Was gonna offer it up to use for mockup

They make good power, but at a higher rpm than a big block, and at more expense. Plan on a stroker, or cutting back the impeller. If you will be satisfied with whatever performance you end up with, then OK. If you aren't, thats when the big expense comes in: LSX block, heads, stroker, intake manifold, etc. We have been involved in the engine builds on several of these so far, and have built quite a few for cars too. We did one of the first driveline/flywheel adaptor from billet stock before they were available. Remember the carb/ ign deal from e-brucks, not cheap, the oil pan mods to fit the boat(we did those),or the guy in Michigan who will redo your computer if you go that way, to remove the smog, powertrain, and antitheft functions, also not cheap, or aftermarket computer. Our major user is on his THIRD motor, each bigger than the last. Second intake/ throttle body, fuel rail setup(we did those too), third set of injectors(each set bigger whenever he ups the HP), custom fuel tank with pump and return(did that too). Unless you have a low mileage Camaro/Vette motor sitting around that makes decent HP out of the box and you are willing to chop the impeller, or again you'll be happy with whatever you come up with just because its different(truck motor?), make a thorough list of what you are getting into. The ancillary components will absolutly cost more than the longblock. Call for further questions. TIMINATOR 623-877-8553

or just slap a carb on it and keep it simple
I didn't do a fuel system mod, didn't cut the impeller, went with a smaller motor than I had and gained 14 MPH. its all about the combination. Its a total of 3 wires to hook up the MSD computer. (+,-, and a tach) I'm a firm believer in keeping it simple on the water.

Not to start a pissing contest here, but you must have had a poor running old motor. Glad your happy, by the way how fast is it? TIMINATOR

it had its moments, it now does 78 and im tinkering still. bone stock 5.3L

thanks for all the opinions guys. ill be running the LS1 out of my 2001 SS Camaro. a few years back i swapped the motor out and its been sitting around in the crate waiting for me to find just the right build for it. and i know all the details on deleting vats and all that jazz out of the computer and have a guy in bakersfield who stuffs LSX's into everything under the sun and im sure would love to tune the boat for me. as far as power goes im positive ill be fine especially since im running a stockish 455 and no offense to the big block comunity but the numbers most of these guys pull out of there 460's and 454's ive pulled out of stock bottom end LSXs with no problem at all so we will see how it goes.. i will definatly post pictures along the way

We always like to see something different that works, good luck it should be a fun build.

And don't forget LS1's will take a 100 shot of nitrous all day long.... O0

I ran a 150 rwhp wet shot on mine all day long and never had a problem... just have to have a fuel pump that will keep up with the noids
