gonna pick your brains with a stupid question.i dont claim to know anything about distributors or what goes on inside them. i am running a mallory points distributor, part number YL624AV2. i want to put a conversion kit (points to electronic) in it. which one of the following will work on my dist. and how simple of a task is this? thanks.
1. http://www.jegs.com/i/Pertronix/751/9ML-181/10002/-1?parentProductId=750194 (http://www.jegs.com/i/Pertronix/751/9ML-181/10002/-1?parentProductId=750194)
2. http://www.jegs.com/i/Pertronix/751/ML-181/10002/-1?parentProductId=746414 (http://www.jegs.com/i/Pertronix/751/ML-181/10002/-1?parentProductId=746414)
3. if none of these will work. please let me know which one will.

Either one will work with that distributor.
The Pertronix catalog has a lot of good information.

Am I going to have to re-do the timing once I install this?

I would say that you should check it to be safe, not that hard to put a light on it and see where it is.

Thanks Barry. But is it normal when you install these conversion kits to have to totally start over with the timing. I mean it wouldnt move the rotor, cap, teeth on cam or anything. I mean I don't see how it could mess up the timing. But I don't know that much about that stuff.

The problem with the trigger kits is it will actually change the point at which the coil gets fired by as much as several degrees.
I would check it. The time it takes to check it is about the same as it would take to detonate the motor and hurt something.... ;)
The rotor and distributor body have little to do with ignition timing. It is the trigger point, the rotor just puts the spark from the coil "close" to the pole in the cap, that's all. I always check to see where the arc marks are in the cap after a good hard run, I shoot for the first third on the contact....And yes, this is adjustable....You move the plate in the body whatever direction necessary. Sometimes you need to drill larger holes in the plate. You should not have to worry about it with what you are doing...
Check the timing to be safe, you will be changing the trigger point. ;)
Good luck.

Hell for 20 dollars more get the ignitor 3, it has a adjustable rev control. ive had all 3 ignitors the first one installed i had to play with timeing write from the start of the motor.cause you can tell the timeing was off just by hereing it run. were talking a few degress. ive never had to drill or move the plate? oh just dont let them get real wet.they short out.

Thanks guys I will be checking the timing to make sure its accurate.
