Have it rebuilt. It's probably the silonoid (sp). I have a buddy local to me that taught me a few things on starters and alt. and it is usually a $45 part that needs replacing and that is it. Keep in mind if you buy a new "rebuilt" starter that all they do is replace the bad part and clean it up as well. If you don't mind the extra $$$$ always buy brand new.

Its a Tilton Super Starter. I was gonna pull it but i gave up. What a pain in the ass. Where does it unbolt from? I have a buddy who has a brand new starter for me for a super homey hook-up price. Thats a good point about that wear on the ring gear. Oh and nobody ever told me spiders love to live in or around your boat over a winter.

I have two stock chevy starters laying in the garage. I think that they are good still. You are more than welcome to have one. Just let me know.
