The boat has no engine cover so do I still need to use marine stuff. Like distributors, starters, carb,etc etc

If it was me I would still use marine parts. To my knowledge marine parts are not supposed to cause any spark but they are also built to help prevent corrosion, deterioration and all those fun things that happen when you mix metal and water. I don't know about you but the last thing I want is a broken boat in the middle of the water. Anyways just my $.02.

Fuel vapor can/will settle in the lowest part of your bilge, covered or not.
Anything not insulated can make things go boom. I️ cannot see a downside to using marine rated equipment.
Of course we did it for years without marine grade items and all survived but now that they’re readily available, and required, why wouldn’t you?
