Title: Marine starters for a 460 bbf
Post by: Tikotiko on July 23, 2019, 08:10:25 PM
I need to get a new starter but was told i should go with a marine starter. I have a bbf 460 but i was told by the previous owner that everything but the motor was chevy. Starter,  alternator and starter solenoid. How do i know what starter to get. I also want a starter without a solenoid on it thanks in advance guys

We run a lot of these.  I haven't been there myself, but I have been told that they assemble as needed.

If your looking for a stock style starter , just get a starter for a 1992 f250 with a 460 , STOCK they are a high torque mini starter. A lot smaller than the older style

My two cents:
I removed the stock, bulky, original starter from my 460 (79 Hawaiian) It was hesitating and didn’t seem to have the torque I wanted. and replaced it with the mini high torque in your photo. Didn’t noticed a difference in cranking all season, last weekend of the season the boat took a big wave and submerged the new high torque starter. It operated the remainder of the day, and that was it. Did not operate after that. Put the original back on cleaned up the grounds and it works better than the mini high torque. I should have devoted more time to the cables and saved the money
