What do you guys think? I've got a shot at an engine a friend used to run in his Bonneville race car, I've seen this little mouse spin @ 7500 RPM for the better part of 5 miles, WFO! At any rate he's stepping up a size and I have a chance to make a small donation to the team engine fund in exchange for the SBC, this engine went 196.43 @ El Mirage dry lake in May. 214.54 @ Bonneville in August '06. Whaddya think?

PS- looking for some 460 Ford Harman Marine stringer mounts

you say it can spin 7500 and thats ok but it wont do it in your boat with a jet pump behind it. your better off just building your 460 and call it done. the amount of fuel you will eat with that small block, providing you can even get the rpm's up high enough to move your big heavy boat would probably kill you. just my .02
i just saw in the other post you got a new boat so maybe it would work, but i would stay with the big block

Ralph, thanks for the advice, I know the SBC is a great engine, but I believe the 460 will develop more torque to pull my fat ass out of the water w/o being dragged for a hundred yards!

this just squirtin= i am running a 460 with alum heads and single 750 demon in an 18 ft southwind=a buddy of mine is running a 383 with nitrous in a smaller boat and he cant keep up even with the bottle=im pushing 77mph on 87 octane=as my machinist say nothing beats cubic inches

He's a smart man !

You've gotta check the power curve. 383's are high revvers but they're known as the SB that puts out torque like a BB. If you got the torque in that little 383 you probably won't spin it that high but you'll spin it high enough. My buddies 371 SBC spins the wheels off it's pump. Cruising along @ 6000 RPMs then floor it that last little bit, it'll flash 7500.
Is that 460 running a prop?

Like a BBC, yes, but not like a BBF.
