Title: Mini Starter
Post by: jimpen on September 15, 2014, 01:07:13 PM
I have a Jegs pro mini starter and one out of ten times it won't engage hot or cold.  When it does it you can't  pry the gear out.  If I hit the starter a bunch of times it will work again.  I pulled the starter out and took it to a starter shop and they could not find anything wrong.  Works 90% of the time anyone ever had this problem.

I had the same problem with a summet racing starter. Tossed it in the trash and got a MSD high torque.

No issues with rail kit clearance with that starter?

Jim no need to pull your motor, to me it sounds like the bendex is getting stuck, maybe rust or corosion. Thats the same starter that was in the boat when i bought it 4 or so years ago.

On a gulwing you have way more room to get a starter out than a tunnel. you should be fine. have it rebuilt or buy a new one.

I pulled a took it to a starter shop that is good.  They were not able to find anything wrong with it.  He pulled it apart and found wrong.  It will spin but not engage and you can even manually move the gear out.  Never ran across this before, if you hit the starters 10 or 15 times it will work again.  It's hard to order one as I have already found out some mini's will not fit with the rail kit.
