I just picked up a new marine gm 3wire altenator, and in the process of hooking it up, I noticed that there is no light or resistor in line of the exciter wire, but there is this switch that I'm not sure what it does for the altenator, can I just bypass it or not, please help. And I would like to relocate the terminal block somewhere other then on the skitow, where is everyone else mounting there's, thanks again for the help

Been a while since I looked into it. But if I I remember correctly the switch is ran to 12v and that "ignites" the alternator

Im running a 12si alternator and I have one wire going a fuse panel with some resistors in line. The other loops from one alternator terminal to the other and finally the charge wire to the battery

Look up self igniting 10si or 12si
