There must be a reason why I have never seen a nitrous oxide set up on a jet boat? Anybody? It seems like a logical and advantagous application. Why are there not a lot of boats with this system??

You'll find nitrous on some drag boats looking to get every bit of HP out of their equipment but for a healthy river/lake boat it is not worth the money/trouble because you would need a 100+HP "shot" to make a seat of the pants improvement and and a lot bigger "shot" to make a significant speed gain.

If you're looking to gain tenths of a second it can be a good helper   but if you don't need the headache of nitrous don't mess with it in a jet boat.

Let's see. You build a rock solid 8-1 engine that runs easily on pump gas all weekend and then BAM when you need it. Good fuel filter and maybe a second fuel pump. I do agree that if you are shooting less than 100 HP you are wasting your time. The engine that you would build for a 250 shot would be a great daily driver. That does not mean that you can put a 250 shot on your daily driver! I don't see a lot of hassle with the nitrous. Basically you build a blower engine, and have to buy the blower. Keep the fuel clean and don't let it sit for a long time between uses and you will be fine. Make sure you know what you are doing before you do it.

I meant you do not have to buy the blower!

I have a nitrous settup up on my camaro, and would never do it again. Nitrous itself is a great power adder, but can only provide that "boost" for a limited amount of time. If you are racing 1/4 mile runs and only useing the n2o for 10-12 seconds, it is fine, but to run it for an extended period would require you to have impracticlly large amounts of nitrous, to keep the power comeing. Plus, the nitrous/ fuel ratio changes as bottle pressure drops, so you would need to factor that in as well. If I ever do it again, I will just go with a blower, since the engine has to built strong either way. That way the power level you want is always there. In my boat, I just have a 12:1 454. Nothing high tek about it, but it makes good power, and if you are stuck running high octane fuel anyway, it just seems easy to make alot of power with high compression,---no blower, or nitrous.

Typical jetboat takes 20 HP per mile an hour gain. Yup. 125 shot is good for 5-6 MPH and 100 seconds of use. 250 shot is good for 9-10 MPH and 45-50 seconds of use, and usually less gain because of hull limitations. $40-$50/ bottle fill and between 50 cents and $1.00 per second of use its kinda spendy for a boat. Its a better application for a drag/street car. I have had turbos, 8 and 14-71s, and nitrous on boats in the past, and still have an intercooled 14 on the big boat, but for smaller boats, Me, I just build big inch motors that run on regular!  TIMINATOR
