Title: Motor / Pump question
Post by: sportinwood on June 02, 2010, 08:45:46 AM
I finally borrowed a GPS and found out my speed on the boat...now my question, does the speed match the potential of my motor / pump.

I have a '78 Hallett, 21' with a fresh 454, stroker kit (i believe the terminology is .30 over? please correct if wrong), holley 850 double pumper, 12 JC-a berk pump. Going about 58-60 mph @ 5,000 rpm.

To my knowledge, the pump hasnt been touched in quite some time. I feel like the motor can push a lot more rpm's but the pump isnt allowing it to.

One of these days ill post up my float in the boat showcase area..

Thanks for the feedback.

If it's a 454 gone .030 over, it's not stroked, it's bored. 58-60 in that big of a boat is a good number, leave it alone and you'll enjoy many hours of use.
that's my  $.02

ok. and when would I know to rebuild the pump? The boat has been in my family since brand new and the pump was rebuilt about 1990 but i havent had problems so far. Should I just leave it alone?

Nothing else needs to be said. Respectable numbers, leave it alone.... ;)

60 MPH in a mini day puts that sled in the upper 10% of the mini days around here I would think. You're fine.

You'll know when to rebuild your pump when you either hear loud noises from it, hafta add oil to the bowl often, or performance drops off very noticeably.
