Title: Motor stuff
Post by: Beaveretriever on May 21, 2008, 11:39:44 PM
Tonight I ordered some valve cover gaskets and exhaust gaskets. there were no valve cover gaskets in the motor. im going to run the motor soon like tomorrow or friday, and adjust the valves. does anyone know the right plugs to run in a 455. i bought some that were 5/8 socket size and the ones i pulled out were 13/16. the 5/8 ones were loose when i took them out to check them, like finger tight..... any suggestions?

If it looks like the plugs that you removed were seated properly, just replace them with the same thing.

If someone looked up the 5/8 plugs by year they probably didn't go old enough.  I can't remember what year Olds went to the peanut plugs (5/8 socket tapered seat type).

My olds is a 71 and it takes the 13/16 size I believe and if your olds has the stock valve train, then you don't have to adjust the valves because you can't.

I think that im going to get some plugs that are not taperd. thats what came out so im going to put the same king back in. So the olds doesnt have adjustable rockers like a chevy. I havent done anything with the motor and looking at what is inside the valve covers it looks like no one else has either. Im going to check the wires tonight with an Ohm meter to see if the wires are bad. I only have about 20 days before my trip to Lake San Antonio.

About the only thing you can do for the rocker arms is to retorque the bolts.
