When I put in the 460 I added an MSD 6AL box. I had no spark at start up so I just bypassed it and went back to the standard wiring. I used the white wire for the points trigger.
I haven't had time to check it out but have read that the MSD won't work with a mallory dual point distributor. It's a new tach drive distributor.
Have you heard this rumor? Does anyone have this setup running?

Pull the second set of points out, the MSD just uses the points to trigger the ignition. The second set of point provides more dwell (charging time for the coil), but that is no longer needed and only serves to throw the MSD off.

I'm jost wondering why you wouldn't replace the points with something like a Pertronix IgnitorII ? It replaces the points (breakerless ignition) uses a magnetic sensor takes less than .6 ohms with a 45,000 volt coil. Don't get me wrong points are good but if your trying to put an MSD box you want performance. Replacing the points with a breakerless ignition is less than $100 from summit racing it will fit inside almost any dist. just a thoght, check out their web site search "pertronix ignitor" good luck...

I picked this distributor up on ebay for $52.00 new. I couldn't pass that up. It is a mallory dual point with the tach drive and great advance adjustabality.
I figured out the issue yesterday. There was an ignition resistor on the back of the engine which I thought went to the electric choke. wrong....
I used that supposed switched 12 volts to the coil to feed the msd.
I was feeding the MSD around 6.5 volts. I'll be hooking it back up this week feeding it 12volts
this time.

Mallory makes a module to convert the points over but it's about $112 or so . Still worth it in my opinion and I will be doin it with my Unilite . I also used the Crane Cams XR1 module that has a built in rev limiter in my GM points distributor $64 . Way to easy and cheap to do away with the points in my opinion.
