How and where did people mount their MSD box? I want to use the vibration mounts, but I can't figure out how or where is the best place to put it.

i mounted mine on the side of my back seat wood. my back seats face each other and the side that is by the engine worked out just fine.

I thought of doing that, I have a bench across the back, I just would worry about water from people getting in the boat after tubing/skiing.

they are supposed to be waterproof i hope. i have had mine mounted there for a year and no problems yet

Mine is mounted on the transome wood , as high up as I could get it.

There are no issues with running the wires for longer distances, by mounting it in the front?
Marc, do you have a picture? How did you attach the box to the wood? Did you use the rubber mounts?

I like the location where Marc/s MSD box is mounted. But if you had gone and looked at his TR setup when you where trying to figure out the linkage... >:D Anywho :D His MSD box isn't mounted with the rubber feet. Screws straight into the transom, that's what it's there for. Up high, pain in the asss to get to but you should never have to get to it.

I am doing the same setup 6al, promaster coil, Magnetic pickup, and have been wondering the same thing. I was thinking of making a clear plexi-glass waterproof box atatched to the transom (where my exhaust used to go through) but I am concerned about the longer coil wire. My first choice would be as close to the distributer as I can get, but I am worried about the heat/water exposure, not to mention the engine vibration . Then comes the other issue, the new dual carb setup.......what heat range spark plugs!!!
Brad do you have a chevy or olds?....

Brad has a FORD , And just cause you mount your 6al box far away dosent mean you have to mount the coil far away. My box is mounted to the transome and my coil is mounted to the front of the head next to the distributer.

So no issues with vibration by mounting it without the rubber feet?

mine is mounted to the back of my heads with the rubber mounts, never had any issues with it, easy to get to if i need to change rpm pills, once splash shield is on it very rarely gets any water on it

You can run a long wire for the the mag pickup, and having long primary wires, as long as they are a good gauge, is also OK. The shorter the coil wire, the better. However - it's better to run a 4 foot long msd 8.5 (50ohm/foot) than a one foot Mallory Sidewinder (600 Ohm foot) or heven forbid even an inch of those pep boys / autozone factory replacement cables (10,000 ohms / foot)

This is our most popular version of the MSD ignition box mounting bracket. MSD also recommends using the vibration mounts on any marine application due to the roughness of some water conditions. This bracket is designed for the Big Block Chevy head and would need to have one more hole drilled out to fit on the Ford also.

Here is mine. It is mounted on the left side of the back of the seat. Tucked in there pretty good. I might box it in with clear plastic.
