My boat is a 76 Wreidt and it has a 460 Ford in it, my Dad bought my boat new in 76 and I bought it from him when I was 18 in 2004. We always maintained everything well and it still runs good today my question is should I think about doing a rebuild on the motor before something happens or should I leave it alone. Thanks

Does the motor show any signs of it needing a rebuild? Low oil pressure? Using oil each trip out? Smoking? Not running like it used to? If you dont have any such signs leave it be...i probably wouldnt be hard on it though...if everything seems good save your $$$$ and when its time for a rebuild you will be able to build a new stout 460!

Spend some time and money on prevention of problems.....

Make sure all the hoses like fuel and water are pliable and in good overall condition, check the compression for a baseline and record it somewhere, repair any and all oil leaks and go through the tune up thoroughly. It only takes one time for a problem to kill a good running engine, those are the things to play close attention to...

Make sure it's not detonating and or running lean, and make sure it does not overheat. If it is still running strong, I think it would be safe to say you got a "good one".
