Need some one with more knowledge that me so it should not be hard. I took my intake off today to get powdered coated. It's a eddy performer 2.0 on a bbc with 049 heads. So I get it off and see the ports and I see that they are more square

Do you know the casting #'s on the heads?

Sorry replied before I was done. So I read that Edelbrock intakes have smaller ports on purpose. I read that if I gasket match the intake it won't help flow. So my question is how can you take a little port to a bigger port won't it be high pressure low volume in the small port then hit the big port and need more volume. Or am I ass backwards and it's pulling air in from the head big port first i guess I'm thinking the air gets pushed into the head but it really is getting pulled into the head. So since it pulls smaller into bigger it works because it's not hitting a wall, but if the intake port was bigger than the head port then it would not be ok. ?? Please set me straight

GT's comment cracked me up, although I'm sorry I have nothing to add on your main question man but I would really like to know the answer also!

You're flirting with the correct terminology. Lol
Port matching (or in this case just matching to the gasket dimension) won't hurt anything.
For terminology clarification.
The volume is the volume, both in static measurement and flow, the flow won't pick up or slow down, the VELOCITY is the variable. To state the obvious, the smaller the port, the higher the velocity. The different port sizes at maximum velocity are where the biggest improvement can be made. Anytime the wall of the port changes shape, there is a reaction to every action.
By gasket matching, the velocity should be able to remain the same throughout the runner.
Not saying everything that will happen with matching would be good, but maybe more good than bad.
Now if the ports ate just so different in overall size and shape that matching will remove a large amount of material from either side of things, it may be time to rethink the model of the intake or head. The early small block Chevy smog heads immediately come to mind, you would have to remove nearly 3/8" of material from the corner of the end ports with very little in the way of gains.
All this being said, the design of the small ported heads are more of a hindrance than the port misalignment, but still say, it cannot hurt.
Dammit, where's silver tongue Flusher?

Thanks gt I am thinking a new intake one that has the large ports like the head. Any thought on a good choice
