Here is a link to the search for "olds article". A lot of threads about building an Olds.

Here is the Olds article.

Boat motors usually have different tolerances than car motors because of the running temps and RPM's that a boat motor runs at.
This is covered in the article.
What kind of boat are you building it for? What are your expectations/plans?
Good luck on your build.

Thank you. It's going in a 71 kona. Just a reliable motor. After I get some money together I'll start building a BBC OR BBF haven't decided yet.

Hey, need help? Just ask. 24/7 mostly! Are you folk's set up to do this type of work? Would it be possible to get a "short block" marined from reputable shop, probably $5ooo? Using your other good parts you could have a reliable, smooth running Olds. Doing the work yourself saves more. Just depends on your capabilities. Good luck. Keep us posted on your build.

I just happen to like the look of an olds motor all built up looks meaty.

Hey Chad, your C heads, you remember how big the valves are?Was any
port work done to accommodate the bigger valves? How about the center "siamesed"ext. ports? I ask as I too have a 455 to rebuild. Thanks.
-
Yes the are 2.072 intake valves

Yeah my dad has everything to do. And I'm not going to do a big build just want to get back on the water this summer. Hopefully I can get some parts during summer and build it some more but it's going to be a low budget build don't have much to spend on it.

B510...after your "rebuild",you might consider a Place Diverter adj. nozzle for the pump. Made a huge difference in my boat's performance even w/a pretty stock Olds. Excellent tuning tool to play with if you don't already have one....good project w/ your pop to work on together.
-
Yeah I'm going to get one after I get the motor running. And once I get some bigger power I'll get a split bowl and droop snoot.
