Need to get some headers coated
« on: January 16, 2014, 05:58:08 AM »
Ive got a set of basset headers that have a little rust on them. They are currently chrome/rust  and i want them black. Wheres a good place to get them coated? Or should i just clean up the rust and hit them with some black high heat paint? And if so could you recommend a particular brand.
Thanks, ryan

Ive been thinking about doing the same thing. I dont know if they do like a black ceramic coating. I figured black bbq paint would work pretty good haha.

Black Rustoleum BBQ paint works good if you prep the headers good... knock off rust and scratch them up with scotchbrite or a wire wheel... it can last for a little while. It's a good, "Fuck, I'm going to the river this weekend and my headers look like shit!" sort of move... but to make them super nice and have it last...

X2 on Embiee! They did a great job on the headers I've sent and it seems to last much better and stay nicer than local guys that "do ceramic coating". Plus Jeff is a boating guy... so it's cool to keep loot/business in the community.

What did they charge? And what was turn around?

$250 for coating my BBC Bassett through-transom headers silver, inside and out, with additional heat-protective coating inside.  I think the additional heat-protective coating is the same that is applied to piston domes.  It is a copper color.

Turn around depends on how busy they are.  My headers went quick, a couple days.  Sometimes takes longer (weeks).

I had a set of headers for a Jeep done by Car Craft in Riverside (near 60/91/215).  Quality looked good and turn around time was good.
