Keep it simple and pay your attention to the oiling system (we'll happily help you,we bulid a half dozen or so a season ) Olds work well with Mild cam ,8.5 to 10.25 compression , dfdp 750 Holley ,msd dizzy and Edlbrock performer, Big (10 qt ) oil pan, oil resticted upper end and high pressure low volume O'pump . I'f you keep the RPMs below 4500 K and drive it conservetively you'll have a ball Good luck and welcome!  JBP

Bringing this back from the dead, I'm thinking about picking up a 455 for my SJ.  What kind of power can you get from the combo you just listed?  Have any cam recommendation for an otherwise stock motor with a performer intake and mentioned carb?

I would be very interested in hearing the answer to this also.!!

I just bought a boat with a fresh 455, but it has a Tunnel Ram with dual Edelbrock 600's
9.75 to 1 compression
.40 over KB pistons
286 Isky cam
10qt pan,
big valves, etc.

It dyno'd at 450 hp & 550 torque

It almost seems like to much carb though.. wondering what the difference would be if i swapped out the T-Ram & duals for a Performer intake & a single 750 dp Holly.

I'm sure Tom @ JBP will be back by here soon. (or anyone else whos got some info/experience) :)

The diffrence would be lots of gas mileage and better bottom end performance.

Taco'd "a person or people that show up with one lake lice and a family of 50 and cram 3 people at a time on it with no disregard to boating rules or ethics. Usualy crap in toilets and throw shit paper in trash cans. Hang out at the boat ramp like its a swimming hole. Have zero insurance on anything they own and dont give two shits less about your property."
