Harmonic balancer
« on: May 20, 2018, 02:34:57 PM »
Question for you guys about the harmonic balancer on a BBC 454. How do you match one to your flywheel? The reason I ask is that I changed mine out (as it was bad) and purchased one from AutoZone. I just purchased the one for my motor and it looked the same as my old one. The issue I am having is I have a vibration once accelerating and on plane. Nothing at idle. The vibration is continuous. I’m not sure what flex plate I have as I did not build the motor. If they do not match could it cause a continuous vibration?

Did it look the same on the backside where the counterweight would be??  Timing cover side?

It had the same drill holes on on front side facing away from motor. I do not recall a counterweight on the timing cover side.

If it had a weight, new one must also have a weight. If it had no weight, new one must not have a weight. The holes will be there regardless.  The holes are where the weight is mounted. I just went through this.
