Title: BBC starter and soleniod questions
Post by: SomeThingWilder on October 02, 2015, 10:40:31 PM
1.my starter does not have any markings on it to determine which one is "S" and "R". Im about to put my engine in the boat tomorrow and wanted to get everything hooked up before hand. 2. Wanted to confirm that my slave selonid is wired up correctly and if wired like this does my POS cable from the battery go to my starter first or the solenoid . im running the pre-made engine harness from Hardin Mairine which is pre wired for a slave/AUX solenoid. On the wiring diagram provided with the harness it say yellow/red wiring goes to the "starter solenoid trigger" im assuming this is the "S" marking on it? i will attach some pictures shortly so you all can get an idea of what i have going on.

So you want to know which terminal is what?

Using an ohmeter,  the (I) terminal will have absolutely no continuity to any of the other terminals.  The "other" small terminal will be (S).

Normally, the one furthest from the starter motor is (s).

Looks like my starter, my solenoid is in a different position. Connection to lead is hidden. This would make your bottom lead the one.

Hope this helps. Don't think it will hurt if wrong lead is connected, if nothing happens try other side.
