Title: No RPMs
Post by: flames on July 21, 2013, 06:05:32 AM
I haven't had my boat for long and it is a BBF 429 the boat is a 21 ft 1978 Caribbean mini day cruiser. The motor has a little blow by but seems to run good. The problem I have is in the driveway it will hit 5000 rpm with no problem but on the water I can only get 3800 rpm. What can I do to get more out of it. I would like to see 4500 rpm .  Thanks

What pump and impeller cut are you running?

Check timing , fuel delivery....
That's way low.

The first place I'd look would be at the fuel filters, change your inline filter and check to see if your carburetor has an intake screen or filter, if so replace or remove.

I had the exact issue once. Revd up fine in the drive but once in the water (under load) it only hit 3500 and would die eventually. Dirty carb/filter issue. I would start there. Replaced all filters and cleaned carb. Issue gone...any pics of your boat? I just picked up a 79 caribbean mini cruiser project. It needs a floor.
