Title: noisy gear drive
Post by: billydenuzzio on June 16, 2009, 12:19:56 PM
I'm thinking of putting a noisy gear drive in the boat but I'm running OT bassetts without baffles so I'm not sure if i'll even here the gears or not.... Any input?

I personally would not run a gear drive in any of my engines. One of the reasons is that the gears will transfer alot of harmonics from the rotating assembly to your valvetrain, wich you do not want. A big advantage of running a timing belt versus a chain is that alot of the harmonics are absorbed by the belt and not transfered. In my opinion the gear drive is a cave mans technology way of cam timing. Oh and i dont really think you will hear the noise of the gears over the headers.

Something about the way a Jesel looks  ;)  Looks a lot like the money you could be saving with Geiko LMAO...

If you want to go gear drive, Cloyes makes a three gear set up that is pretty sweet, never did one on a big block, but did two small blocks...Oh and totally silent... ;)

mine lasted one season and back to a chain. The noise is cool for about ten mins.

Big difference between the added HP of a blower vs. the HP gains of a gear drive. I would compare it to a whiney, bitchy 100# IRS agent to a screaming 350# tatooed WWF wrestler, no comparison really. :-\
