What octane do you guys run ?? does Octane affect horsepower?? I think I filled up with 87 octane not because Im cheap but I didnt know if it mattered?? My dad said to always run 91? should you use octane boosters?? and one more question for Ya'll what kind of oil do you guys run Ive gotten a couple different opinions on this....give me your opinions ;D

As much as I hate to say "the old man is right again"! ;)
I used to run 110 octane race fuel in the boat, now just run the best fuel at the pump (normally 91) as far as octane "boosters" I am really not a fan.
The added octane does not give more HP by itself, it allows a more agressive tune up, the BTU/lb. are virtually the same nowadays because of the oxygenate used (normally methanol or ethanol depending on where you buy your fuel). The octane rating is changed by the addatives put in the fuel of today, it used to be a different blend all together...
As for oil, I use Amsoil synthetic for everything I own, not saying you have to use synthetic, but its pretty impressive stuff....My 468 BBC gets 14w40 racing oil (has zinc addatives)...

Fwiw, if you can get away with 87, or 91, you'd make less power with 110 or 116 ect.

i ran 110 for fuel and mobil 1 synthetic for oil in forkedup
now i run 91 for fuel and still mobil 1 for oil in "yettobenamed" big boat ;D

lake boat: 91 octane and vr1-20/50
race boat 110 octane royal purple 20/50
jmo, c/r and cam will dictate what octane, and bearing clearance will dictate what weight oil

in the rogers it had the plate saying what octane to use and it said 110 leaded!!! so we just used the AVGAS in parker. oh boy noticeable difference!!! we had also changed the plugs too so that made a big difference. never had a chance to change the oil bc we found out the the bearings were spun before we could change it. but in our olds we just run 10W40.

more food for thought......... ;D different gas company (vp, f&l,Sunoco, Torco,ect)make different fuel. being 110 isn't always 110. one will burn faster or cleaner ;) :banghead: :banghead: >:D
