Title: Oil Change: can't get oil out!!
Post by: KillJoy on May 31, 2015, 02:08:07 PM
454 w/jet....  Put in a new/rebuilt engine after last years explosion.   Go to change the oil for this years adventures and notice there is no hose from the bottom of the oil pan to drain the oil.  I can't even come close to getting a wrench on the bolt to drain the oil or install a drain kit.

So, I get one of the dipstick sucking gizmos.  Heat up the engine, take out the dipstick and slide in the thin hose... it goes in a way, then stops dead.  It must be just above the oil level where it hits a damper or something.  Bone dry suction hose when the dipstick reads "full".

Thus, I can't get the oil out of the dipstick tube and I can't get it out of the bottom of the pan.  I managed to get an allen headed bolt out from just right of the oil pressure sensor, put the hose in there and nothing....

What to do?  External oil filter hoses holding any secrets?  Tap a hole in the case?  Go in by the fuel pump?

Thanks!

Pull the oil sender and put a small brass nipple in the hole, throw a piece of hose on the nipple with a hose clamp, pull the coil wire and ground it, crank the engine with the hose in a bucket. Done. Maker sure the filter is still on it before cranking.

I have done it this way hundreds of times.

The oil pressure sender is in a tough spot too.... had to take the "snail" off that side to replace it.

Any other ideas?  I can get to the manual fuel pump pretty easy.  Do any of those big set screw type bolts have a fairly direct line into the pan where I could use the sucking gizmo?

Try a smaller hose on your transfer pump... If your dipstick can touch the oil you should be able to get a tube into it as well...

He can always pull the oil filter off and stuff a trash bag under it and crank it over
