Buddy of mine has a newer maybe 5-6 year old commander with what he believes is a 496 vortec ? Does this sound right... Anyway he's looking for an oil filter before the weekend. He ordered the Sierra that would be a replacement, but wouldn't have it before this weekend. Any suggestion on a substitute ?

Yeah that's what I thought... Haha vatozone... Like that one ! He said it is a 496 for sure, it should not be any problem for him finding one... Thanks

. What do you think about oil ? He bought 5w30 ! Lol.... Man oh man... Seems like that just isn't right !

496 GM engines use 5w30 oil factory.
496 mercruiser HO engines suggested oil is a 25/40 synthetic.
depends who built the motor and how its all set up. you can ALWAYS run an oil and then send it off to blackstone labs to see how its working and see what they suggest. if they see more of a type of metal they can say where its coming from (rings, bearings, etc) and suggest maybe a lighter or thicker oil to compensate and give you best results.
