Anybody's .02 ?
« on: July 23, 2008, 07:35:34 AM »
Ok..So I bought an Edlebrock Performer for my stock BBC...My question is...I'm running a Holley 750 dual feed single pump,I took it off of the stock (boat anchor ::)) cast iron manifold and on there, there was a "spacer plate" (aluminum) about an inch thick,is it necessary to put this back on with the Performer manifold? Will it make a difference that I will notice? The reason i'm askin' is cuz with the height of the new manifold and than if I put the spacer plate in too,I may have to make an adapter for my throttle linkage cuz the carb will sit a bit higher... Anybody wanna chime in with their .02?

Not sure with the performer, but with a Torker it did seem to make a diference on mine.  I would say try it without and if you get the time to make the bracket, rig something up so you can try it with the spacer.  Pick ther performance you prefer.

yes it will make a diff it lets the fuel air mix better and keep the carb a little more away from heat also you can buy throttle linkage that bolts to the carb and works way better and looks nice

Probably won't notice at anything under 4500 rpm,or so, they do seem to have a "ram effect" above that sweet spot, if its going to be a pain in the rear Iwould run without and mess with it later, but thats me, did you cut down the divider in the carb opening, most of the time you can take approx. a 1" by 2-12" section out of the web between the left and right ports (a lot like a Performer RPM) I've seen this a bunch of times, this tends to improve idle quality and give just a tad more top rpm, may not need the spacer,  Use the "Assenometer" to verify it ;D

I use a spacer on my open plenum and you can tell with the tach that it works, (850 carb and a 1" four hole spacer) which is different than what you have so Dunno. ???

i used a 1" spacer on my torker intake but ditched it on my performer rpm. you can get a throttle bracket that mounts on the side or under the carb ;)
for example.......

As for a bracket you can get one from Dana Marine. I had to flip it over cause my throttle cable was too long to route straight to the bracket. So I flipped it over and made a return spring bracket as well, the cable comes to the bracket like an automotive application.

Nope it is a push. It pushes the bottom of the arm on the carb.

Was the original "spacer" there to adapt the square bore Holley to the cast iron spread bore manifold?  Are you using a Performer or Performer RPM manifold now?

Cheers, Mark
