has anyone ever ran a dry header with water injected just before the baffle? Not into the primary tubes. I'm trying to cool and quite the exhaust some what. Basically I want to weld in a fitting at the beginning of the collector. Also conserned that water may flow back into the engine at shut down. Engine is just a stock 350.

Well I added water to the tips before the baffles. Is quieter but still getting to hot. Anyone selling some cheap logs for a sbc?

I'm new to the boating thing but I why not drill and weld fittings into the primary tubes? Make them wet headers. Then run some sort valve to shut the water off at an idle so you don't get water in the motor. That's what I was thinking about doing on my boat idk if it would work. My boat also has a sbc with dry headers

Yeah I'm going bend some brake lines this weekend and weld them in the primary tubes.this boat is turning into the ultament rig job. How far are your headers from the sides of your hull?

That's what I did. Welded fittings in the primaries, and drilled a weep hole at the lowest point.
Header supply valve at the drivers' seat.
Speedway (Schoenfeld) sprint car headers, down side-up.

I'm not sure but I'd guess 12-15 inches I can stand between them and the side

Any pictures of this done? What fittings did you use?

Just to say it out loud so you evaluate what you're about to do....
Rethink this whole thing...
Find some center riser manifolds..... Stop screwing around with water in the pipes.... You are going to puke your stuff.....

Totally interested in your project here. I have a Tahiti with a sbc and have been wanting to do the same thing as you. The Schoenfeld dry headers have my eye but i have never been too sure about how to route the water pipes to properly do this. Good luck I hope this goes good for you.

The object is to lose weight and add horsepower.
Iron center risers are adding weight. And losing horsepower. :screwy:
Carry on...

Who the hell said anything about iron? Indmar, Marine Power, Kodiak, Barr, IMCO, Stainless Marine among dozens of others make aluminum that weigh barely more than headers.....

My buddy ran in his sbc powered rogers, the old school logs with the ot header pipes, then split the out water between the collector (at about 8" back from the outlet) and an overboard dump. Not saying this is the end all be all setup, but it worked since the boat was first rigged and did double duty as a circle boat in the 70's and river boat... only thing he changed was added a bassett t valve in. Thing was pretty quiet with the mufflers in... and ran remarkably well for a 327sbc... but then the boat is stupid light.
