i am thinking about putting some O/T headers on my boat... i am goin to make them myself...
now i know there are dry and wet headers.. obviously dry headers have no water goin through them and wet ones do...
my quesion is... how does the wet header system work.. i see that the water inlet is at the bottom of the header.. how does watter not get in the motor???
and is it better to run wet or dry...??

Dry=hot
Wet= less hot
No water in the motor if the tvalve functions properly. Save yourself some headache and get a sprint car header kit and it will have "the look" of the Jetboat style header. If you have a common motor just pick up some used ones

wet headers what are those? ;) you could transform dry headers into wet headers with simple tools...a welder and a drill...i would still recommend a basset T though if you decide wet headers...the huge factor on what you want to do with the style of header is where you boat...9 out of 10 votes would be a wet header though

so whn making a dry header to wet header how do u kno where to drill the holes??

i would find someone with a basset header and take measurements :thumbup: i would definately say you would want the weep hole at the lowest point of the header tube though

Why take the time to build a set of headers if you don't even know if you'll like them?
Buy a set of used headers and install them with the water injection as designed, run them wet, run them dry and see if you even like them. Then go forward with building your own headers as planned.
By the time you buy the flanges and tubing (not counting your time) you're going to spend almost as much as a good set of used headers.

All right, all right... Let me start over.
Remove 390, install 460, then...
Buy a set of used headers and install them with the water injection as designed, run them wet, run them dry and see if you even like them. Then go forward with building your own headers as planned.

i wish i had that kind of money right now, but i dont... plus the 390 hasnt given me any trouble.. im a firm believer that if its working then dont change it.. with the exception of the headers >:D

When you run the headers dry you get max performance from your headers. I have heard that running a wet header robs a little power but I don't believe it is anything to worry about. And as already mentioned, dry headers get hot! REALLY HOT!! So I would recommend running a wet and by using the basset t valve, it will keep water flow to your headers very low when at idle. And as your engine rpm's rise the pump creates more pressue, opening the valve more and giving more water for your headers. And unless you have a HUGE cam in your motor, you will not have a problem with getting water in the motor. But i'm lazy and run a banderlog valve.
