balancer bolt???
« on: January 04, 2008, 07:49:54 AM »
Since i am putting a new balancer on i figured it would be a good idea to replace the bolt as well.  Called the dealership and it is a discontinued part, no big deal, hit up the local speedshop, $20.00 for a bolt (arp)??, what is so special about the balancer bolt?, the dealer said it was  a 1/2 x 20 x 1 1/2, i bought the arp bolt (piece of mind makes it worth it) but what makes it diff than any other bolt? hell home depot sells them for 50 cents (not that i would go that route) ;D

Agreed go to Truvalue if you have one (were there almost every day) Killer supply of graded bolts etc ,good prices on stainless and even chrome plated (better than Fastenall restocker)

BTW be sure to use a little sealer on you dampner key and behind your retainer bolt washer (oil seep)

coool, thanks for the info, thats kinda what i thought but wanted to be sure, i already bought the arp bolt so i will use it, tom, i to have been making several runs to the local ace/tru-value for stainless allen bolts, i got luck though the supplier for our dealership hooked me up with almost 90% of the bolts i needed and even some i didn't (all stainless allen head), but for the rest that i was missing, you can not beat ace/tru-value ;D

All I want to add is make sure you know what your buying...  all bolts are not the same!
Grade 2, 5, 8 and 9 bolts are used for different tensile strenths and different aplications.
Plus there are more than one grade of stainless!  18.8 and 316 are common, but 316 is pricey (and better)
If you can, make sure you never buy off shore stuff...  never know what quality your getting!
Stick to name brands and trusted supliers  ;)    Geez...  I'm starting to sound like my dad,  lmao  ;)
