Start from the beginning  where the water is picked up from the jet housing and go from there . Make sure all the hoses are clear from that point going forward . The two main reason for this is low heat transfer which is scale and dirt or sand for sure  and restriction to flow , something stopping the water from flowing at a correct rate from supply to water pump from pump to block and so on “” I’m sure there dudes here that can offer way more than me but it’s happened to me and a friend and at the end of it all , in one case if we would have started at the beginning we would have caught  the  problem sooner Good luck  Brother and good hunting

Good start !!! Solid plan !!!    I’m sure you’ll find the problem . Even if you find it at the end of your cooling system at least you would have inspected you system and that alone should give you piece of mind on the integrity and efficiency  of your system. It looks to me like you are using an RV water pressure regulator. That would definitely restrict water flow to a point where your motor would run hot/overheat. I would install a 2-3” long pipe coming straight off of the jet. Install a 3/4” gate valve. Then run your rubber hose to the T. High water pressure blowing out gaskets is a big deal on an Olds. You don’t want that gate valve wide open. Start at the halfway mark and aim for an idle temp of 160 degrees.

The driveline to the pump was like that when i got it. Does it look like that could be a problem? I will redo the water line with a gate valve. Thanks Roadrunner
