Title: Panther M-360
Post by: panther M-360 on April 11, 2012, 10:30:16 AM
Just bought a 1980 Panther M-360 boat Haskell 17' with AMC 360 V8.  It is all original with no aftermarket stuff.  Got it on the water fires up and ran smooth after 5 years of sitting in a garage.  The problem- it only turns 3,000 RPM at full throttle.  I made sure the carb is all the way open, but it should turn 4,000- 4,400 RPM.  Just wanted to see if anyone had ideas.  just needs to turn more RPM to go faster on the 1st testy it ran about 30 MPH  not good.  Motor doeas sound strong and does not miss or seem to run funny

A few things to check-
fuel quality (old gas)
fuel filter(s)
plugs, wires, cap & rotor
timing
on the hull-
hook/rocker
weeds in pump/impeller
worn/damaged impeller/pump

At what elevation was it run at?
amc 360 (1975) 175-225 hp (jeep)

Hope this helps
