Title: PCV and venting on 460 ford
Post by: sonny1717 on September 06, 2015, 10:06:44 PM
Guys I recently changed to a dual carb setup and taller valve covers - I have a mild 460 built and I'm wondering how I need to properly vent the block. Do I need a PCV ? I believe I may be getting a little oil out of the dipstick with just two breathers installed on each side . Any recommendations ?? The new valve covers on right and carbs shown. Do I need to create a PCV ? Do I need a vent to the air scoop ?

It's just my opinion, but a PCV typically does not flow enough. I would recommend two MOPAR style breathers and vent then into the scoop ay the rear.

If you're not opposed to welding into your headers a crankcase evac kit is another choice.

I am shy on room due to the right header shown in the pics . How do you guys feel about a puke tank/ both vents into it ? Would that work ? And run some 10an fittings/ lines to it ?

I would start with just using 2 breathers one in each valve cover. No pcv and if you find that the breathers are becoming saturated with oil then I'd look towards a puke tank like that. I felt my 460 worked well with just the 2 breathers.
