Title: Petcocks
Post by: DDDuster on December 31, 2018, 05:42:51 AM
Do you guys have petcocks in place on your motors? I'm replacing a 454 with a another and the original motor has them installed. I've never had them on previous boats and would appreciate your thoughts.

I live in Mohave Valley, AZ and the boat will be stored inside in a climate controlled environment.

Thanks for your help

I feel they plug up much to easily.

I just use hex headed brass plugs.

I agree, thanks for the input. I'm not too concerned about draining every last drop of water out of the block. I don't live in below freezing temperatures either.

It’s worth it to drain the crap out. But they do plug up and I seem to put new ones in every couple years

I drain my block n headers every time I pull it out. N that’s a lot. Do plug up from time to time. But nothing a lil rod I got doesn’t break loose. N hit once a month with anti-seize. Just my 2 cents.

X2 on the plugs. I usually open them up and flush the block when I get back from the river. With OT headers access is real easy and flushes quick.
