ok i pulled my junk engine out of my 73 fiberform malibu jet. went to take the exhaust logs off they are berkley there are pipe plugs in the bottom of them i have to take the plugs out in order to get to the bolts out to remove the logs from the heads i cant not get the plugs out they are STUCK!! any suggestions on how to get them out with out breaking anything?? they are allan head plugs nad they are kicking my A$$ :banghead:

Before you damage the hex,, use a propane or similar torch to heat the aluminum. Obviously, if you use a cutting torch you can destroy the aluminum, so use your head some. Expanding the aluminum should allow the plugs to come out much easier.

To add to what obnoxious said...
If you have Aerokroil in your area http://www.kanolabs.com/google/ (http://www.kanolabs.com/google/) , pick a can up, I use this stuff literally everyday....Hose it down and let is soak awhile, like a couple hours.
In a pinch, get some ATF like Mercon II and add about 20% acetone and use it like you would a penetrating oil. It's close to the same, but be careful, acetone is extremely combustible. ???
Then after wiping it down, get the aluminum warm and work the Allen back and forth with less force than it takes to distort the hex...
The problem with aluminum is that it corrodes around whatever is screwed into it. If they are brass plugs (they did them with both steel and brass) then I would simply drill them out and chase the threads with a pipe tap. The plugs are worth less than the manifolds are and you will probably jack the plugs up anyway.... ;)

tried to heat and work back and forth still no go a few of the hexs got messed up drilled hole though the plug and tried and easy out still no go they are steel plugs :( i dont want to wrench on them to hard in fear of breaking the manifold. also tried soaking them in penatrating oil over night i am at a complet loss :banghead:

Had the same problem with mine. Got them all out but two. Tried to heat up with a rosebud didn't work. Tried to use an ez out n broke three of the ez outs. Ended up drilling those two holes one size bigger and got slightly bigger plugs for them. It was a pain in the ass. I hate the types of exhaust :screwy:

Relax...Take a breath...If you have to trash the 40 year old manifolds, chances are (unless you have an unusual engine) that you'll be able to find logs/snails from someone pretty easy. Maybe an unexpected expense, but like GT said, welcome to boating.

If you have already drilled a hole keep drilling the hole until you can get a punch and crush the remaining away from the threads. Plug must have really welded itselg to the manifold. To keep useing easy out it won't work just carefully crush away from the threads.
