455 timing cover

Trying to track down a brand new timing cover. Thinking I might be leaking water through mine due to it being old pitted and warped. Going through the motor completely after milking the oil numerous times last summer and don't wanna leave any stone unturned. Can't seem to find anywhere selling a brand new one tho. Some company's sell a 2 piece but there over 130$. Any ideas?

I went through the milkshake phase on my 454 a couple years ago. Turned out to be a cracked head. Something to think about.

I took the heads to George at clay smith yesterday he could tell just by looking at them that there fine no cracks. He said 99% chance it's leaking through the timing cover.

I'm in Ca 91342

From lots of experience...if the timing cover is assembled with silicone around the water ports on both sides of the timing cover and a little on the block off plate and torqued to spec...they never leak

My bet is the intake manifold... What gasket are you using?

When I first put the motor in the boat when I bought it I was dumb and put the timing cover on with the oil pan on, with a hammer lol. Anyways I milked the oil. After that pulled the motor and changed the intake gaskets with the good felpro set 1356 I think and also did the timing cover the right way. Ran it reall easy at Elsinore after i put a gate valve and pressure relief off the pump and no milk, took it to the river the next weekend and ran it hard and it milked within 20 minutes. Never got a chance to dial in the valve to get the pressure down tho. Anyways, thinking maybe I warped the plate hammering it on in the beginning. Got the motor torn apart now and going through everything and figured I might as well change everyday possible issue.

Yea! Hammers are never supposed to be near engines! Especially during assembly.

You may have very well bent that thin timing cover plate if you forced it past the oil pan lip. But then, how did you get the half moon front seal to stay in place?

Those felpro gaskets are the best ones...make sure you torque to spec and in sequence

Haha ya I know I've figured that out. I've learned aloooot about motors since I bought this boat. As far as the cover I'm going to call George tommorow and see if he's got any laying around since I'm picking up my distributor from him tommorow but if not ill grab one from you. Thanks!
