Hello,
Newbie here as well as my first post. Don't laugh but I have a question involving the proper procedure running water thru the engine in order to run the motor while the boat is on the trailer. Is there a connection for a hose? Is there a devise which hooks up to the jet intake as in outboard motors.
Although I am mechanically inclined, I've never worked on this type of set up. My friend wants me to find out why his boat suddenly dies after running for about five minutes on the lake. I suspect it's the fuel filter as the boat has been sitting for about a year. We've added new fuel as well as seafoam so the fuel shouldn't be a factor. I simply want to run the engine while it is on the trailer and assess from there.
the only thing I now about the boat at this time is that is is a 1973 with a Buick V8 engine. I'll find out more is need be.

We don't see many , well hell ANY Buick powered boats around here, Welcome! Can't wait to see it!
First, you need to post pics of the boat. Particularly of the engine compartment, to see how your set up is.
Second, if at ALL possible, disconnect the driveline from the jet. Not usually possible with 3 point mounts. In which case, what I do, and don't really endorse, is run a second hose like an enema up it's ass. at least it's SOME water to the jet, but don't run it too long or hard like that.
Heres a pic of my setup on Moo. My Pickle is setup similar, but with all AN fittings is all. pull a cap off, hook up the hose (With a valve to control the water). With Moo, I loosely clamp vise grips around the red hose from the pump to feed it just a little, then a hose up the wazoo WFO as disconnecting the driveline is impossible on that one. The pickle is a 4pt mount, and 5 minutes to disconnect it.

I'll take some pics later today and post them. Your tip on disconnecting the drive is well taken because I was wondering if I'd damage the turbine while running the engine. As I've said, it's a friends boat and I want to be 100% certain with the water connections before I start it as I plan to run it for at least 15 minutes to determine why it's cutting off suddenly. As I said, I'm guessing its the fuel filter.
The boat needs some TLC both inside and out and that's where I come in. Although it's a classic from a bygone era (lol), I think it would be fun to run.
Hey, I see your in AZ. I was just at Lake Havasu this past weekend, and "was" planning to return to Bullhead July 5th-8th but had to scrap those plans. :(
Can you post a pic of your entire boat? I'd like to see it.

Here are some shots of the motor. I hope you can determine what type of setup I have with these pics. I think the black hose with the white plastic coupler is the water line?

IMHO I would not use plastic couplers on a jet boat. Here is my set up. I do not run it out of the water because I have the Ultimate Wear Ring and it states not to do this.

As always, beautiful boat, How well does your little strainer work for all the water flow? I use the steel version of the same strainer on just the header water and it is unreal how much crap I pick up...
We tried using small strainer in the main line, but the screen just got crushed and blew apart....
I am green with envy at your skills... :thumbup:

The strainer does work pretty good. I have not had any problems with it. I do however have problems with the banderlog valve not working at all. I finally got this thing together after the dyno session and thie valve did not work at all. Had to cut the day short. This is the second time I wil be sending the banderlog valve out. I made a make shift set up today using a basset T valve and called Don from Banderlog and told him I am not happy and sending it to him again. the boat did run real strong with the dynoed engine for the 300 or so yards I

Sorry for the thread jack...Is it possible the strainer has too much pressure drop?, that's where I had problems....Isn't the Banderlog valve a diaphragm type deal? Just curious....
I want to say the Banderlog is pressure dependent.

Nope it does not even click and compressed air does not go thru it at all when 12volts and ground supplied to it. I have max 18 psi running to the valve as I adjust my dump valve for the pressure I want. It worked for only 1 season perfectly then started acting up. I did not change a thing in my set up when it worked before.

Yeah, the plastic coupler is your water feed line. I'd get rid of the plastic as TJ said. Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a brass hose repair kit and replace those with the brass fittings, just as it is. Then you can uncouple it and hook the hose to the engine.
Looks pretty easy to disconnect your driveline too! :thumbup: Should be good to go!.

I'll switch out that plastic coupler with a brass hose repair kit. And yes the drive line looks easy to disconnect.

Thought I would add that a isolation valve off the pump is a good idea. Enjoy!
