Would a PTO on a flywheel protrude further out off the engine then a PTO on a flexplate or is there no difference?

Technically speaking, two different pto's

I know they r different just wondering if there was a difference between the both when fully bolted up. The engine that came out of my boat had a flywheel my new engine has a flexplate. I was having trouble with my oil pan sitting on my intake grate bolts(both old engine oil pan and new engine oil pan were the same depth).Well after purchasing a new shallower pan and pick up and finally getting my driveline / engine sitting as it should, I went to put my driveline guard on (which came off old engine with flywheel) my guard wouldnt sit square on the pump like it did before. But when I push the engine forward about 3/8 to 1/2 forward my guard seated square as it should. This got me thinking about this question and maybe that's why my first oil pan was hitting the grate bolts.
