I've been through several starters in a few different BBC's in the boat. Everyone told me stock was the ticket, until 4 of them wouldn't work even after shimming, then had 2 high-torque's, they also took a crap after a while. Now on an reverse rotation top mount, didn't kick into the flywheel far enough at first, but after measuring and having the adapter turned down to go farther into the flywheel it sounds really good. But I'm also going to put another high torque on the bottom of the motor as a backup incase the topmount fails, couple wing-nuts and switch the cables, and back on the water.
