What's the best place to run the "1" wire. I'm rearranging some things and was about to run "the" wire to where the batt. cable hooks to the starter. Any reason not to wire it that way? Would it be better if I ran it straight to the battery? Or no difference. Also what gauge should that wire be? Is 10 gauge heavy enough? If I run it to the starter, she's gonna get some header heat...fwiw.

FWIW, The wire can go directly to the battery, but it gets messy quick...I go to the 50 amp circuit breaker I have installed which then goes to the main lug on the starter..Just cleaner IMO...
If you have more than a 25 amp alternator, 10 ga is too small, should be closer to 6 ga. Most marine alternators are 35 amp (I have a 50 amp...so size the wire apropriately......
