Broke a rocker yesterday on #3 exaust(that sounded special at 5k). I'm looking at the valve stem tip, and I can see where the roller rocker has made a grove. I know the rocker needs replaced, I assume the valve does too. Aren't valves suposed to rotate a little every time they go up and down? Or is the grove from the tip normal and nothing to stress over????

Yep bullet solid roller .700ish lift, comp cams promag rockers 4 seasons(light ones) on them and the valves/heads. I'm still retarded on the whole photobucket deal, I could email you some or maybe tonite one of my kids can help me post some pics. Rocker gave way on the bottom of the trunion. Not positive on the exact spring pressure.

I can't tell enough by your photo. Did you get the rocker off and inspect for a flaw where it broke?
If you don't know the spring pressure, assume you had a shop set up the heads, and you gave them cam specs and also recomended spring specs from mfr?

The girdle and rocker are coming off tonite. To be honest I'm not real sure how to pull the girdle, I was going to undo the sideways bolts 1st, but I guess thats another story. On the springs I bought the cam and springs from cstraub(I assume I'm o.k.). Among other things I'm not sure what to make of that valve stem. I assume the valve needs to be replaced, but I don't want to do more/spend more than I have to.....

The Comp Pro-Magnums are CAST rocker arms. My advice is to ditch 'em! Get replacement from the manufacture and then sell them.

Yep,, if you loosen the "sideways" bolts. the stud girdle will come off. Then you will want to look at everything pretty close, including the rocker stud. If the rocker just failed, you may not see any other problems with the other valves and rocker arms.
I imagine Chris told you what to have the springs installed at, so you may want to verify that with the shop that did the assembly. I guess you really need someone with a little more experience to take a look at what's going on.

Just want to say thanks to all, and props to comp cams. They stood behind there lifetime gaurantee and sent me a new one last friday. I ran it broke for a while, I think that was the bizzar noise I had heard the trip out before this one and thought I was loosing a bearing in my pump. lol Yes, I guess I am a dumb azz.
