Say while i have my motor out, and i decide to go with a rail kit, and stop messing with the 4 point set-up! how would i find out angles and heights to set the rails? what kinds of tools am i going to need? do i put the rails in the boat, and shim the feet? what do i do when taking on a re-rig of such? what angle do i need the motor at in relation to the hull?

you put the rails in level with the stringers....then cut the plates to make the motor the angle you want it. its a tedious process of pulling the motor...grind/cut...put the motor back in, measure...repeat.
"shimming" the motor is only done if you screw up and cut too much off the plates....key is to measure a million times to prevent having to cut more then once.
of course, theres other ways to do this...but this is how ralph and i have done my last 2 rail kits
if you get serious about the rail kit, we can get it done in my garage no prob. let me know. it wont be like yesterday, i promise ;D

its a cheaper solution if hes changing from BBF to BBC having to purchase a set of 4 point BBC's

Not really, Brock has a full Glenwood setup, with feet for like $250. There was just a set up on CL here for $150. But whatever. I just think it's a waste of money.

The way Brad said is pretty close, but you really don't need to put the motor in and out a bunch to make it work, do a little math and you should be able to trim the plates and stab it once and be done.

ralph, remember that one time we put the motor in 3 times and got 3 different measurements and never cut/ground on anything? :banghead:

nordie if you do get a chebby jim brock has a jig that takes all the guess work out of it and i think he rents or loans it out. just a heads up for ya ;)

yeah it would be nice to have a jig to take the guess work out of it...for ford chebbie or olds!!!! and there is times i wished i did live in socal

Betcha I could! Not much different than scratch building motor mounts for a hot rod. Next rail kit that gets installed among us, I'll show you my methods.....

Or, you could do like Sanger and just use a standard motorplate, jet , flat, hydro whatever. Just hang your plates and rails stick the whole thing between the stringer at the angle you like and bolt her down.

if it was a sanger i wouldnt half to worry about it right? definately not going to rig it like a sanger...

I think you guy's should do it together and record and document it step by step for a balls out SCJB tutorial complete with Pics and video of how to install the whole Mount/Rail Kit. My opinion might be a LITTLE tilted this way since I'll be installing one shortly and I also don't fill confident about it yet. :sly: ;) :) . Roy
